We are a not-for-profit
organization and we do not benefit from donors. Thus, we charge
our volunteers a nominal amount as a way of fundraising. A
sliding scale fee ranges from US$ 350.00 to 1200.00, depending on
the period of stay. Volunteering periods are from one week
to five months according to people's availability.
The recovered fees allow NRO face the following expenses:
1. Registration fees
2. Orientation and Nepali language initiation
3. Volunteer's accommodation and meals
4. Transportation for volunteers to and from placement
5. Supervision and periodical contacts
6. Nepal Government Taxes
7. Scholarships to benefit pupils and students from villages
8. Donations to schools, youth clubs and mothers' groups
9. Savings for a new project about abandoned street children; and
eventually, another one related to reproductive
health.
Volunteer fees must be deposited upon arrival in Kathmandu,
into NRO bank account. NRO will deliver a receipt for the bank deposit.
Besides NRO fee, a volunteer must contemplate the following
expenses:
1. Volunteer own flight
ticket.
2. Nepali Visa (one initial 60-day tourist visa costs US $30, deliverable
at the Kathmandu airport; one extension
at a time for 30 days costs US $30, renewable only three
times, during same year).
3. Immunization (voluntary, not legally required, but highly recommended).
4. Travel and health insurance (to be strictly arranged from country
of departure).
5. In addition, a weekly budget of up to US $25 might be necessary
to cater for all other expenses (bottled
water, medicine eventually, beverages and entertainment).
